Kate Mac
Kate Mac hosts the early afternoon show on Sydney’s 2DAYFM. She married her long term sweetheart, Jaime.
I had it in September, about 2 months before our wedding… allowing plenty of recovery…..!
A couple of very good girlfriend’s organized the whole thing for me, but being a tiny bit of a control freak, I insisted on approving most of the plans.
The full weekend! You definitely want to drag these things out as long as you can and savour it. How often will you have all your best girlfriends around you in one place?
A semi-civilised dinner on the Friday night, wine tour on the Saturday, ‘Hen’s Games’ on Saturday afternoon which I was told would be the only tacky part of the weekend and a MUST….no comment. Saturday night we just headed to the local pub for dinner, drinks and dancing.
We stayed in the Hunter Valley at Cypress Lakes Resort which was a great choice for our group of 25. We ate at ‘Fishes and Leaves’ on the Friday night where the food was just fantastic, and the wine list well priced and inclusive of a good variety. Saturday was the wine tour! I’m a big foodie and wine drinker so I was looking forward to this….We factored a long lunch into the day, opting for ‘The Cellar Restaurant’ in Polkolbin which was again good food, great wine list and lively ambience ( which perhaps was contributed by our group…). Dinner that night was pub food at ‘Harrigan’s Irish Pub’ also in Polkolbin, followed by bit of dancing, and I dare say an incalculable amount of champagnes….
Christine Curtis – a tall, blonde, gorgeous girl who is possibly the rowdiest person you may ever encounter…but great value and bloody funny
Someone’s fake teeth fell out on the dance floor mid manoeuvre, but instead of making a deal of it, the person involved simply continued dancing, shimmied over to the teeth, shimmied down to pick them up and just put ‘em back in……much to the horror and disbelief of the old couple nearby who had witnessed the whole incident.
I had explained to the girls that I wanted a semi-civilised weekend devoid of tacky antics – the focus was to be on company, great food and wine…I was then reminded it was in fact a ‘Hen’s weekend’ and whilst all attempts would be made to keep it low key, I must endure an hour of ‘Hen’s Games.’ It was a must. They were actually good fun (sexually focused of course) and great way to bring people together who didn’t really know each other. No consequences.
Get people out of the context of their every day life and organise a weekend away. People are more relaxed and more inclined to let go. And SAVOUR the moment. Enjoy just being with your best girlfriends, those relationships are among the most important you will ever have, they keep you balanced, offer support, and will always be there.
