Mel Hetherington
Our celebrity hen this month is the beautiful Melissa Hetherington. Currently seen on Channel 7’s Coxy’s Big Break, Melissa produces her own stories for the show, which has seen her try everything from indoor rock climbing to driving a steam train!
In addition, Melissa has worked as an actor and presenter on several other shows, including Neighbours, The Secret Life of Us, and Melbourne Weekender. Here, Melissa tells us about the hen’s party she threw earlier this year for one of her closest friends.
1. Were you the hen or the organizer/bridesmaid or both?
Maid of Honour and Organizer
2. When was the hen’s night?
The hen’s night was 10th January 2009, and the wedding was Jan 17th.
3. Did the hen’s night go for the whole weekend or just the night?
The Hen’s night was an overnighter!
4. What sort of activities were there?
We booked a hotel room and asked everyone to meet there. We started with a mix n mingle session with champagne and nibbly’s on arrival so that everyone could get to know one another. We then presented the Hen with her “Accessories” for the night that she had to wear ie. Bride to Be sash, head piece etc…
A stretch limo picked us up and we had a Karaoke session in the limo as we cruised around Melbourne for an hour. It then dropped us at The Botanical, where we had the private dining room booked. A belly dancer arrived for some early evening entertainment and then taught the Hen some sexy belly moves.
We progressed into the back bar after dinner for some dancing, drinking and “Dare the Hen” fun & games – she had 20 dares to complete and received a prize for each one successfully completed (judged by the girls on the hen’s night). Then we went back to the hotel room for some late night entertainment………!!!!!!
5. Was there a theme, and how did you incorporate that theme into the hen’s night?
There wasn’t a theme as such however, everyone was told to leave their inhibitions at home!
6. Who was the star of the night?
The Hen (of course) but one of her bridesmaids made a starring appearance later in the night, or I should say in the wee hours of the morning and almost stole the show. It was a moment not to be missed – very funny stuff, very funny girl!
7. Did the hen meet up with the groom-to-be during the evening?
Of course NOT!! Defeats the purpose of a “Hen’s Night”.
8. Any funny stories you can share from the night?
One particular dare at the bar was quite funny. The Hen was asked to remove her bra whilst dancing on the dance floor and then wear it on the outside of her dress. She managed to do this seamlessly but it was everyone else’s reaction when they looked at her and suddenly realized something wasn’t quite right about her outfit (the reaction from the boys at the place)!
9. How would you describe the hen’s night in just three words?
Fun, Interactive and a little Stylish.
10. Any final advice for a girl planning a hen’s party?
Think about the structure carefully and make sure there are different components to the night to keep things fresh for everyone. The energy of the day/night is very important to keep everyone in a ‘fun’ frame of mind!
