1. Were you the hen or the organizer/bridesmaid or both?
I was the hen, and my sister Rachael arranged my hen’s night.
2. When was the hen’s night?
One month before the wedding.
3. Tell us a little about your hen’s night?
It was the brainchild of my wonderful sister, Rachael, who is the party planner extraordinaire! She’d just returned from an overseas trip through Europe, so she bought home masks from Venice and decided on a theme for the party - Moulin Rouge!
On the night, everyone was given Moulin Rouge type accessories, like feather boas, little French knickers that she’d picked up in the markets in France, little badges, and things like that. She went to so much trouble!
4. Where did you go?
Rachael hired a house in Byron Bay for two days – we started at lunchtime, and continued through until brunch the next morning, so it was lovely.
5. What sort of activities were there?
We had cocktails and tapas on arrival, as well as a few typical hen’s night party games like ‘truth and dare’, which was a lot of fun. There was also a slide show of photos of me misbehaving in my youth!
There were around 20-25 girls there – a few of them came up from Sydney, and a couple of my girlfriends were pregnant at the time, so they were the designated drivers.
6. Did you meet up with the groom-to-be during the evening?
He was actually in the broadwater at Surfer’s Paradise on a houseboat for his buck’s night, at the same time. We did contact each other throughout the night – we were banned, but couldn’t help ourselves!
7. Any funny stories you can share from the night?
I ended up in the pool, fully clothed! I can’t quite remember how it happened, but I remember being fully clothed.
We also had a Sing Star DVD, which is like karaoke, which kept the neighbours awake, and earlier on in the evening, we had a few gentlemen waiters deliver our drinks and serve the tapas.
8. If you were organizing another hen’s night (or having yours again!), is there anything you’d do differently?
I think mine was absolutely perfect. I like the fact that the venue was in a house because it was intimate - it was just for us girls. I live on the Gold Coast, so I also liked the fact that we were able to travel, because it felt like we were really able to get away. It was a bit of a weekend escape with the girls, and who doesn’t love a girly weekend? I’d also go along with a theme to add to the fun.
9. How would you describe your hen’s night in just three words?
Awesome, hilarious, memorable.
10. Any final advice for a girl planning a hen’s party?
It was great because one of my really close friends was the designated photographer, because we were all having too much fun to worry about that! She actually captured the entire night, so it was brilliant. We were then able to relive the night a couple of days later after we’d recovered from our hangovers!!
