These days, hens are generally a little older, more discerning, can be more demanding and definitely more controlling!!!They know what they want for their hen’s night, and more importantly, what they don’t want.
Of course we’re all entitled to the best hen’s night as well as the best wedding, but there are ways of getting that without being a royal pain in the butt to your long-suffering mates.
So hens, if you want to keep your bridesmaids and best friends on side long enough to attend your wedding, here are a few tips on how to manage the situation and avoid becoming HENZILLA.
* Organise the hen’s night yourself! If you think we’re joking you may well be a henzilla already! Seriously though, it is quite OK to organise it yourself. That way you know you have everything you want. Just allow your friends a little license to have a few surprises for you.
* If you want your friend to organise the hen’s event, pick the one who’s most organised. After all, organisation is key to a successful hen’s night.
* The BRIEF: Be clear about what you want and don’t want. It’s fine to give the friend a little brief:
1. Be concise, be gracious, be grateful.
2. Clearly list who’s to be invited and who’s not. Let her know of any potential conflicts or basically try to avoid them in the invite list!
3. Give her a budget in terms of $$ per night you think everyone can manage. You are the one who knows them all, but not all of your friends know each other.
4. Ask for an activity that will be ok for the majority.
5. Outline anything that might not be appropriate for, say, the mother or mother-in-law…again – only you know them both.
* NOW LET GO and get on with your wedding plans! Once you’ve given your lovely helpful friend the brief, leave her alone, because ultimately, if she’s your true friend she has your brief, she wants you to enjoy yourself and for it to be a memorable night for all the right reasons.
So girls, please limit your emails to your friend to AT MOST one per day, (preferably one per week) and don’t keep checking up under the guise of being helpful and having ideas.
Your friend will have her own job and possibly family to deal with at the same time as organising your hen’s night, and if you stress her out and become a pain in the neck with your continued “ooh just thought” notes, helpful tips, demands, ideas and general input, you are likely to find yourself without a friend and bridesmaid, let alone a hen’s night!
