Melbourne Cup Fashion Tips

Who: Gold Coast Live
Date: November 2007

IT will be party time across the Coast again today thanks to all the Melbourne Cup functions and Spiderbait concert at the Gold Coast Turf Club, but that doesn't mean we ladies can't keep our dignity ... right?

So we're passing on some essential tips from Sucheta Kotwal, editor of Hens.com.au, on how to keep from looking like a loser by the end of raceday.

Firstly (our favourite tip too), only ever bet with someone else's money.

When it comes to drinking, alternate between sips of champagne and water, not champagne and bourbon.

Handbag essentials include a printed address and telephone contact of where you're headed at the end of the day to handover to the taxi driver, plus business cards for potential suitors.

Try to choose a floaty dress with a lining but, just in case it's windy, make sure you wear your best knickers ... better still, go for the chic pants and floaty top.

The best hairdos are up with bobby pins, down dos under hats or kept in place with a cleverly placed fascinator. If your bag allows it, take a brush and spare pins.

For makeup, keep it simple, natural and wear protection from the sun and, if possible, wind. Waterproof mascara is a good idea.
